The Highlander Institute is a dynamic academic and training institution established under a Trust registered under the Indian Trust Act, 1882. Located at Sapormeina in Kangpokpi District, Manipur, on Asian Highway-2, about 40 km north of Imphal, the Institute is committed to making quality higher education accessible to all, with a special focus on rural and tribal communities.

Founded with the vision of promoting scientific temper, critical thinking, and meaningful public discourse, the Institute serves as a centre for learning, research, skill development, and community engagement. It regularly organizes workshops, seminars, orientation programmes, and academic events in collaboration with universities, government agencies, industries, churches, and non-governmental organizations. The Institute also provides research guidance, documentation support, and teacher training to meet the evolving demands of modern education.

In partnership with Mangalayatan University, Aligarh (U.P.), The Highlander Institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and professional programmes through Online and Distance Learning mode. Students can pursue programmes in Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, Commerce, Management, Journalism and Mass Communication, Computer Applications, and Library & Information Science.

Beyond formal education, the Institute promotes employability through internships, practical training, and skill-based courses in areas such as Information Technology, Farming, Plumbing, Carpentry, Embroidery, entrepreneurship, and other vocational fields.

Partnership remains the cornerstone of the Institute’s growth. It works closely with leading academic institutions and development organizations, including Mangalayatan University, Oasis College, Kanggui College, Development Horizon, Northeast Diary, and Rafael Chunnu Foundation. In addition, the Institute offers professional consultancy services to individuals, educational institutions, government departments, and community organizations through workshops, training programmes, seminars, counselling, and expert advisory services.

It also hosts the Raja Chengjapao Memorial Lecture Series, bringing together distinguished scholars and intellectuals to encourage informed dialogue on issues of public importance.
